The Evans Scholarship is a prestigious, full tuition and housing college scholarship awarded to high-achieving golf caddies with limited financial means. Established in 1930 by renowned amateur golfer Charles "Chick" Evans Jr., the scholarship is administered by the Western Golf Association (WGA) through the Evans Scholars Foundation.

Key Facts About the Evans Scholarship

• Eligibility Criteria:

  • Caddie Record: Applicants must have caddied, regularly and successfully, for a minimum of two years and are expected to caddie at their sponsoring club during the summer prior to college.

  • Academic Excellence: A strong academic record, typically with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, is required.

  • Financial Need: Demonstrated financial need is a crucial component of the selection process.

  • Character: Applicants must exhibit outstanding character, integrity, and leadership.

• Application Process:

  • Applications are accepted at the beginning of an applicant's senior year of high school, as well as from college freshmen.

  • Candidates are evaluated through a comprehensive selection process, including interviews conducted by the WGA and affiliated country clubs.

• Scholarship Benefits:

  • The scholarship covers full tuition and housing for up to four years at one of the 24 partner universities across the United States.

  • Many recipients live in Evans Scholarship Houses, fostering a supportive community focused on academic and personal development.

• Impact:

  • Since its inception, the Evans Scholars Foundation has supported over 11,550 caddies in obtaining a college education.

  • As of 2025, there are 1,130 Evans Scholars enrolled at 24 universities nationwide.
