Content Distribution: Getting Your Film in Front of the Right Audience

Making the film is half the job. Getting it seen is the other half.

Most production companies stop at delivery. We do not. Ragtown runs a distribution layer built on three things: a 3.1 million audience network, direct relationships with streaming platforms, and paid media built for documentary content.

Brand with a finished film? Subject with a story worth a streaming deal? This is what we do after the edit is locked.

The Sizzle Strategy

We produce a 5 to 10 minute sizzle. Not a trailer. A real short piece that shows the story, the quality, and the potential of the full series, built to the standard a streaming buyer expects.

That sizzle goes to major platforms first. If a buyer is interested, we build the series. If not, it becomes the campaign. Paid ads on YouTube, placement across the 3.1M network, social cutdowns in every format, and months of brand content from the footage.

Every dollar spent produces either a streaming deal or a marketing asset. There is no version where the investment returns nothing.

How it works:

We Produce

We produce the sizzle. 5 to 10 minutes, built to platform pitch standards, using the same crew and cameras we use on every Ragtown project.

Red Bull Rampage film coverage by Ragtown Media

The pitch

We pitch it. Direct outreach to streaming platforms, content buyers, and distribution partners with the sizzle, a series outline, and a subject profile.

Ragtown Media video editing and post-production

We wait

We wait 60 to 90 days. That is a realistic window for platform response.

If yes

We build the series. Full production budget, release schedule, distribution agreement.

If no

We deploy it. Paid YouTube campaign, organic network placement, social cutdowns across every format, and a full marketing content package from the captured footage.

How We Work Together

Distribution is not one product. Depending on your story and your goals, a project takes one of four shapes.

Brand-Funded Series

This is where brands are spending in 2026. Instead of a one-off film, a brand funds a documentary series and we make it. Arc'teryx did it with No Wasted Days and reported a 127% year over year lift in ReGear trade-ins. Salomon, Red Bull, and others are signing multi-year documentary deals, not single spots.

If you are a brand with a real story and a real audience, this is the highest-return shape we offer. You get a series that runs for years, distribution built in, and content that does not feel like advertising.

Commercial Series Retainer

For brands that want an ongoing content engine, we produce episodic documentary content on a retainer. Series pricing runs $12,000 to $18,000 per episode. We post cutdowns between episodes so you see the rollout working in real time.

Subject-Funded with Profit Participation

For athletes, founders, and practitioners with a story worth telling: you fund the production, we produce and distribute it, and we share in the upside. When the film earns through streaming or licensing, you are not just a subject. You are a stakeholder in a media property.

Originals and Streaming Deals

Our own slate. Hemp Nation was greenlit by the Angel Guild at six episodes. When we believe in a story, we produce it, build the audience, and take it to buyers. If you have a story that fits the Ragtown Originals slate, pitch us.

The Data

The numbers make the case better than we can. Here is what the data shows about how documentary content performs across platforms.

  • Attention span by format. Documentary content on streaming platforms holds an average of 14.6 minutes of attention. YouTube long-form averages 11.7 minutes. TikTok and Reels hold under 15 seconds. Documentary content holds audience attention roughly 100 times longer than short-form social video. When you are building a brand relationship, that difference is everything.

  • Where documentary content gets distributed. 82% percent of documentary distribution now runs through streaming platforms. Theatrical release accounts for 12% percent. Everything else combined is under 6% percent. This is why streaming placement is the first pitch in our distribution model and why building a sizzle to platform standards matters.

  • Documentary versus narrative on streaming. Documentaries on streaming platforms average 48 minutes of watch time against 42 minutes for narrative films. Documentaries also show a 38% percent higher completion rate. People who start a documentary are more likely to finish it. That behavior changes what a brand can build into the content.

  • The format that is growing fastest. YouTube documentary shorts under 10 minutes grew 45% percent year over year. That is exactly the length of the sizzle we produce. The format we pitch is the one gaining the most audience.

  • Hybrid documentary campaigns. Campaigns combining documentary footage with motion graphics and data visualization generate 44% percent higher watch time and 38 percent more social shares than either format alone. Every Ragtown distribution package is built this way.

  • How documentary audiences find content. 71% percent of documentary viewers discover content through social media. Streaming placement gets you the audience. The organic network and paid campaign get the content in front of them.

Streaming Placement

Ragtown Media places documentary content and series on streaming platforms through direct pitches, pilot packages, and licensing agreements.

Recent examples being Hemp Nation, was recently greenlit by Angel Studios for distribution. Other projects that recently were distributed with our partner: Brothers in Blues, Gold Rush, Faith of Angels, Guardians, and many more.

We work with SVOD and AVOD platforms, regional streamers, airline and in-venue networks, and educational distributors. If the content is right, we know where it fits.

For subjects and practitioners who fund their own films: a streaming placement changes what the film is worth. It is the difference between a marketing asset and a media property.

Best for: documentary series, feature-length films, athlete and practitioner stories, environmental and cultural documentaries.

Our Audience Network

Ragtown Media has direct access to a verified organic distribution network of approximately 3.1 million followers across action sports, extreme sports, and lifestyle channels.

That network includes Get Sendy at approximately 849,000 followers, Extreme Official at approximately 2 million, and a list of other accounts for any partnership opportunity for any niche. These are not purchased audiences or inflated numbers. They are real communities built over years around action sports, adventure, and athlete culture.

For brands in the outdoor, adventure, motorsports, action sports, and lifestyle space, this network is a distribution advantage that no traditional agency can offer. Content placed here reaches an audience that already trusts the source.

Best for: action sports brands, outdoor and adventure brands, motorsports and off-road brands, lifestyle brands targeting 18 to 35 year old audiences with real interest in the culture.

Pilots and Series Packaging

For subjects, athletes, and founders with a story that could become a series: we build the pilot and package it for buyers.

A pilot is not just a first episode. It is a complete package: the episode itself, a series outline, a subject and audience profile, a production budget, and a distribution strategy. That package is what a streaming buyer needs to make a decision.

We have built this for Hemp Nation, The Forgotten Community, and Instincts. We know what a compelling package looks like from the buyer side and we know how to produce one that stands up in the room.

If you have a story with a built-in audience and you have thought about whether it could be more than a single film, that is a conversation worth having.

Best for: subjects with an existing audience, athletes and practitioners with unique access, founders and organizations with a documentary-worthy story that spans multiple episodes.

Distribution Starts at the Shoot

The reason this works is that distribution is not a separate department. It is part of how we think about production from day one.

When we go into a shoot knowing the content needs to work on a streaming platform, in paid media, and across an organic social network simultaneously, we capture differently. The pilot gets built to the buyer's expectations. The paid cuts get shot to the platform specs. The social content gets pulled from the production at the moment it happens.

Most brands hire a production company, get a finished film, and then start trying to figure out where to put it. By that point most of the distribution decisions have already been made by what was captured on the day.

At Ragtown we build the distribution plan before the shoot. That is the difference between content that gets seen and content that sits on a drive.
